Malta Parks & Recreation

Parks and recreational space are an important part of any community and Malta is no different. In fact, Malta takes great pride in the recreational opportunities that it provides for its residents.

For community gatherings, church events or family picnics, the place to go is the J.Frank Demster Memorial Park. This park is located in the heart of Malta right along the Muskingum River. The J. Frank Demster Memorial Park provides access to the Muskingum River through a boat launching ramp and a number of boat docks. In addition, there is a playground for children, a shelter house for picnicking as well as a quaint gazebo. The gazebo provides the perfect setting to just sit back, relax and enjoy the view along the river.

On those hot summer days, individuals of all ages can cool off a bit with a trip to the Malta and McConnelsville Swimming Pool located in McConnelsville at 45 N. 10th Street. This community park features an olympic size pool with an area for young children to swim in as well. The pool is open daily from Noon to 6 PM.

There is certainly a little something for everyone's recreational interests in and around Malta. Golfing enthusiasts can take to the links at the Morgan County Golf Course on Riverside Drive in McConnelsville or any number of other courses in the region. Hunters and fishers can enjoy some of the finest areas in the state in the area around Malta. The Wolf Creek Wildlife Area features 3,638 acres of wilderness set aside for public hunting and fishing. Wolf Creek is one of only three sites in Ohio for early primitive weapons hunting season. For more information on Wolf Creek, simply call 740-962-2048. Also, in the eastern part of Morgan County, individuals can take advantage of the American Electric Power Recreation Land. A permit is required (issued at no charge) to enjoy the camping, fishing, hunting and hiking sites located on this 30,000 acre site. Horseback riding is also permitted in certain areas of this land and a horse camp is under development.
