The Village of Malta is governed by a mayor-council
system of government. The mayor and a six member village council
are elected to four year terms in order to govern the affairs
of the community. Mayor Paul Barkhurst serves as the President
of the Village Council and presides over all regular and special
meetings. The mayor serves as the chief executive officer of the
village and sees to it that all ordinances, bylaws and resolutions
of the legislative authority are faithfully obeyed. The Village
Council meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month at
7:00 PM in the Town Hall.
The Malta Town Hall, located at 449 Main Street serves as the focal point for most village functions and services. The Town Hall houses offices for the mayor, the village administrator, the village clerk, as well as the village council chambers and the utility office. Mayor Paul Barkhurst, Village Administrator Walter Wallace and Village Clerk-Treasurer Trudy Clemens are available to assist residents of Malta on any matter of concern. To be in touch with any village official, one can stop by the Town Hall, call the village offices at 962-4971, or drop them an e-mail at malta@embarqmail.com. For police service, Malta is served by the Morgan County Sheriffs Department located at 37 E. Main Street in McConnelsville.
